NPM portfolio company Vanderlande Industries is a frontrunner in the circular economy. It holds this position thanks to sustainable innovations such as the BLUEVEYOR, the world’s first baggage conveyor produced according to the cradle-to-cradle principle. The conveyor is made of non-toxic and recyclable materials and components that are easy to disassemble and reuse. Want to discover the company’s latest ‘sustainovations’? Read Vanderlandes’ most recent sustainability report.

Vanderlande believes smart engineering based on lean engineering, assessment of waste and material streams and the reuse of materials and components holds the future. This is because it leads to the development of less complex products. The company is convinced that the scarcity of raw materials and more stringent environmental legislation combined with customer demand for sustainable products mean investing in sustainability should be a top priority. Vanderlande CEO Govert Hamers confirms the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability in the report: ‘Following our first successes in the field of cradle to cradle, we are now continuing our quest for innovative and smart product designs.’

One of Vanderlande’s latest innovations presented in the report is the TUBTRAX baggage system that was launched late last year. It is based on the best practices learned from the production of BLUEVEYOR. This baggage conveyor system is more energy-efficient than its predecessor, has 40% fewer components and is 45% lighter than older systems. The system also has a positive effect on the efficiency of the production process itself.

New head office

Another focal point of Vanderlande’s sustainability policy is the company’s new 19,500 m2 head office opened in September 2016. This state-of-the-art structure has been rated ‘excellent’ by BREAAM, the leading environmental assessment method for new buildings, existing buildings, areas and demolition projects. The new head office features a range of sustainable solutions, including triple-glazed insulated windows. It is also future-proof in terms of capacity. This is important because Vanderlande is currently experiencing record growth and is consequently hiring more new employees than ever.
