Gap between IT and daily practice leads to increased workload in healthcare sector

Digitalization is intended to make healthcare more efficient, but that isn't always the result. Half of healthcare professionals see their colleagues lose time due to IT systems that are insufficiently integrated in their daily work, according to research by IT and business transformation specialist Conclusion. More than 25% even find that technology increases their workload. NPM participation Conclusion conducted the study among 646 healthcare professionals, including doctors, IT decision-makers and healthcare managers.

Almost half of the respondents (43 per cent) see a gap between digital solutions and the needs of healthcare workers on the job. The problem isn't just in the technology itself, however. Two thirds (67 per cent) find that employees are not given enough time to master new technology. In addition, 39 per cent believe that healthcare professionals are not sufficiently involved in the implementation, which often leads to resistance or underutilization.

Still, healthcare workers also see opportunities. Almost half of respondents (45 per cent) think artificial intelligence offers opportunities to reduce staff shortages. “Digitalization only works when healthcare professionals are involved in the process from the beginning,” said Ann Ouvry, Healthcare Client Director at Conclusion. “Without their support, technology ends up being a burden rather than a tool.”
