Easy reading with the Traveller HD | NPM Capital

Optelec introduces the Traveller HD, a new type of reading tablet visually  disabled people can use to read printed texts. The Traveller HD shows texts in sharp, larger letters and with high contrast, which makes reading easier. The screen can be moved horizontally, to make reading even more pleasant.

In the Netherlands only, there are about 1.4 million people with vision problems. As we grow older, we are having more and more problems with our eyes and our vision gets worse. People with vision problems, like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration or retinitis pigmentosa can continue to live independently with the help of a reading tablet, for instance.

The Optelec Traveller HD is developed in collaboration with people that are suffering from eye diseases. “Our clients preferred a reading tablet with a big screen, that is still easy to carry. The Traveller HD closes the gap between the electronic magnifier and our mobile magnifiers. It is the first electronic magnifier that is small enough to carry to school, work and on holiday, but big enough to read letters, magazines and newspapers. We already showed the Traveller HD at a few big road shows and people were very enthusiastic about it”, says Maartent Bosch, CEO at Optelec.

The Traveller HD contains a unique slide & read mechanism. This technique makes reading more naturally, especially for people who find it hard to keep their hands still. The big screen slides smoothly over the text lines and shows enlarged words on the screen. Shifting the screen backwards and forwards makes it easier to recognize words, which makes reading easier than ever before.
