Bergman Clinics and UMC Utrecht join forces in eye care

Bergman Clinics Amersfoort and the University Medical Centre Utrecht will collaborate intensively in the treatment of keratoconus, an eye condition in which the cornea becomes deformed. By combining clinical experience and academic knowledge, both parties want to improve patient care and take scientific research to a higher level.

The collaboration focuses on innovative treatments such as crosslinking of the cornea. In this procedure, the patient's cornea is treated with a combination of ultraviolet light and vitamin B2 drops, which should slow down the deformation.

With this collaboration, the parties want to make specialist eye care more accessible. "We ensure that clients end up in the right place and benefit from the latest insights and treatment methods," stated Bergman Clinics. "By connecting clinical practice and academia, we not only strengthen patient care, but also contribute to research."

On behalf of Bergman Clinics, a specialized team is involved under the leadership of ophthalmologist Lisanne de Ruiter, together with optometrists Linda van Hees, Rik Canters, Jolanda van Overbeek and Tirza Takkebos. On the side of the UMC Utrecht, ophthalmologist Marchien Dallinga and cornea specialist Prof. Dr. Mor Dickman are involved in the initiative.
