Vanderlande’s René van Sandijk nominated for CIO of the Year 2016 | NPM Capital

The prestigious CIO of the Year Award 2016 will be presented this month to the Netherlands’ best Chief Information Officer. The annual award will be presented by His Highness Prince Bernhard of Orange-Nassau during the CIODAY2016 in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam on Tuesday, 29 November 2016.

The jury is looking for a technology leader who has achieved a breakthrough in the past eighteen months. The nominees for the award are René van Sandijk (NPM portfolio company Vanderlande Industries), Michel van Hout (Transavia), Ron van Kemenade (ING), Gerard Spans (Arcadis) and Teun van der Vorm (ANWB).

The theme of the award dovetails with that of CIODAY2016: Breakthrough! The jury is convinced new business models, breakthrough technologies, a volatile global economy and bottom-up driven social developments mean companies must go the extra mile to remain relevant.

Traditional frameworks and protocols can provide a foundation, but they can also form an obstacle. What’s more, new applications such as agile (scrum), DevOps and lean are useful, but can also cause choice-related stress. The jury says a good CIO will nonetheless be able to find his or her way within this dynamic landscape.

IT Innovation

René van Sandijk is managing director ICT & QM and CIO of Vanderlande. He has responsibility for the company’s global information technology and process quality management.

Since joining Vanderlande, René van Sandijk managed the global transition for the company processes to one set of flexible processes and tooling. As part of this transition René established the worldwide IT organisation to support and optimise these processes and tooling.

Current focus is the support of Vanderlande’s Profitable Growth Strategy via the global continuous improvement programme. This also includes the introduction of new (customer-facing) ICT services.

Benchmarks

Every executive who is responsible for IT at a Dutch company and has held this position for longer than two years can compete for the award. Participating CIOs must first of all prove they have set up efficient and cost-effective IT delivery. But the CIODAY organisers also believe support and appreciation from the business is equally important. And last but not least, the jury measures the CIO in terms of his or her leadership, vision and personal profile within both the company and the Dutch CIO community.
