This afternoon, Her Majesty Queen Máxima visited Futurelab voor de Zorg in Driebergen. In this lab, innovative care solutions and techniques are developed and tested that allow the elderly and chronically ill to continue to live independently as long as possible.
During her visit Queen Máxima saw how clever care innovations support care providers and patients. People can live at home longer thanks to remote care, which includes medical applications and a special alarm for people with dementia.
The visit began with a presentation on the future of care. It was followed by several demonstrations of modern health care, such as the automatic administering of medication by a ‘Medido’, the use of a ‘smart patch’ to remotely monitor the health of a patient and a video consultation with a doctor via iPad through a ‘Patient Hub’.
The Queen then attended a discussion in which medical specialists, GPs and district nurses shared their experiences from their everyday work. She also met with volunteers from the Catholic Elderly Association (Katholieke Ouderenbond, KBO) who are receiving Tablet coach training.
The Futurelab voor de Zorg is an initiative of healthcare innovation company Focus Cura. The lab serves as a breeding ground where healthcare professionals, patients and research bodies cooperate to develop and test eHealth and home automation (technology that supports better living and a better quality of life) solutions.
After her visit to Futurelab, the Queen visited a client of care organisation Beweging3.0 in Soest, who is able to continue living at home thanks to home automation and eHealth solutions.
