Kiwa issues first CE certificate for recycled bitumen | NPM Capital

Kiwa has once again made a significant contribution to the circular economy by issuing the first CE certificate for recycled bitumen in the Netherlands to Roof2Roof. While a certificate for this had already been introduced in Denmark, this was a first for the Netherlands. Roof2Roof provides recycled bitumen (commonly called tar) for asphalt used in road construction.

Roof2Roof recycles roof bitumen into a high-quality raw material and two of its products have now become CE certified. Roof2Roof Director Gerben Bijker says the CE marking issued by Kiwa guarantees the quality of this raw material for use in asphalt. ‘It is now clear that both products meet the client’s needs and are consequently a good alternative to standard bitumen in asphalt’, says Bijker.

Kiwa supports these types of initiatives based on its belief that a circular economy holds the future. The company gives shape to this conviction by developing various new standards and certification schemes that support manufacturers that produce different products in different markets in achieving their environmental targets and/or circular ambitions.
