Kiwa issues 750th CO2 Performance Ladder certificate | NPM Capital

Kiwa has recently issued the 750th certificate for the CO2 Performance Ladder to Covalent, a consultancy agency and software developer in infrastructure and real estate.

‘The CO2 Performance Ladder is a meaningful instrument for organisations to visibly and measurably show that they take reducing CO2 emissions from their business operations seriously,’ says Rense Kuil of Kiwa.

Kiwa is one of the certifying institutions that audit and certify businesses in accordance with the ladder requirements. The CO2 Performance Ladder is managed by the Foundation for Climate Friendly Procurement and Business (Stichting Klimaatvriendelijk Aanbesteden & Ondernemen, or SKAO). The ladder has five levels with increasingly strict requirements. Companies awarding contracts using the ladder for tenders reward businesses that take reducing CO2 seriously with a notional discount on the tender price. ‘More and more companies are doing this,’ adds Kuil. ‘The ladder has only been available for around six years, and already there are 750 companies holding the certificate.’

The 750th, consultancy agency and software developer Covalent, helps organisations to realise, manage and maintain infrastructure and real estate. The company has used the CO2 Performance Ladder in the formulation and implementation of its policy. Practical measures included limiting energy use at the office and monitoring and limiting fuel usage.

CO2 Manager Siert Saes: ‘We frequently work for clients that have public responsibilities. To be able to continue to excel as a contractor and an entrepreneur, the further integration of sustainability in our organisation is a logical progression.’
