Het Gastenhuis opens new location in Hoogeveen

On the Leeuweriklaan in Hoogeveen, a new location of Het Gastenhuis was officially opened today. The small-scale residential facility accommodates twenty people with dementia, including two couples. The festive opening was attended by alderman Mark Tuit and initiator Annemieke Bambach, director of Het Gastenhuis.

Het Gastenhuis Hoogeveen is located in a new residential home designed to offer residents a safe, familiar and homely environment. The home revolves around residents' personal lifestyles. “We tailor the care to the rhythm and wishes of each resident,” said location managers Rolinka Hup and Arien Beelen. “If someone likes to sleep in, that's possible. And those who prefer to eat in their own apartment rather than at the table in the common living room are given the space to do so. We organize the day as it best suits the resident.”

The Gastenhuis operates in multiple locations throughout the Netherlands and focuses on people with dementia who are entitled to 24-hour care. Small scale, openness and involvement in everyday life are central to each location. The organization aims to provide a full-fledged home in the middle of society. “Home is more than a place – it is a sense of recognition, safety and humanity. That applies to everyone, including people with dementia,” said director Bambach.

With the opening in Hoogeveen, Het Gastenhuis further expands its national network and contributes to accessible and person-centred dementia care in the Drenthe region.
