Het Gastenhuis marks milestone with realisation of tenth location | NPM Capital

NPM portfolio company Het Gastenhuis is rapidly expanding its care concept. The first Het Gastenhuis care home was opened in Dordrecht, the Netherlands in late 2016. Some six months later, the tenth Het Gastenhuis is now being developed in Kerkdriel, the Netherlands. It will be a home for people suffering from dementia and is expected to be completed in 2018.

The Het Gastenhuis initiative has a clear mission: providing people with dementia with a small-scale residential facility that has an atmosphere in which they can continue to live like they did in their own home as much possible. The care homes are characterised by a limited number of residents per facility, personal attention and high-quality care and services. Each Het Gastenhuis is managed by a care-giving couple who reside in the home.

Het Gastenhuis presented its plans for realising this latest facility at the former location of a primary school in the Kerkdriel council chamber a year ago. The care concept for people with dementia was met with a great deal of interest. The former school building was unsuitable for redevelopment and it was consequently decided to build a completely new Het Gastenhuis. The design was finalised in consultation with the immediate neighbours. The possibilities for optimally designing the public space of Het Gastenhuis were also examined in consultation with local residents.

The first Het Gastenhuis where people with dementia live was opened in Dordrecht. The second Het Gastenhuis will open its doors in Vleuten, the Netherlands this summer. Additional locations will follow in the Dutch towns of Druten and Teteringen in late 2017. Another six Het Gastenhuis locations are currently under development, all of which are expected to be opened in 2018.
