Het Gastenhuis joins forces for volunteer work with dementia

NPM participation and housing program for people with dementia Het Gastenhuis has launched a partnership with the DemenTalent platform. This platform helps people with dementia to find suitable volunteer work. The goal of the partnership is to help residents and people with dementia in their local communities to keep using their talents – in a way that suits them.

According to Wietse Bakker, Operations Director of Het Gastenhuis, the collaboration aligns with the organization's core values: “We encourage autonomy, vitality, and connection. Volunteering not only gives people with dementia a role in society, but also provides them with self-confidence, enjoyment, and dignity.”

DemenTalent guides people with dementia through a talent scan and personalized support in finding volunteer work that matches their interests and abilities. Director Deanie van Tuijl said: “People with dementia want to make a difference for others. We look at what is possible – we share that positive perspective with Het Gastenhuis.”

With this partnership, Het Gastenhuis and DemenTalent want to show that people with dementia matter and can make a valuable contribution, the organizations say.
