HAK sets the new standard: red cabbage and red beets with no added sugar or salt | NPM Capital

In keeping with its mission to help people eat more vegetables and legumes in the healthiest way possible, HAK is the first player in the market to set a new recipe standard for red cabbage with apple and red beets. The canned vegetables manufacturer, which is located in Giessen, the Netherlands, and is an NPM Capital portfolio company, is introducing two new products that do not contain added sugars in addition to the popular classic bestsellers. They are seasoned with natural ingredients such as herbs, spices and vinegar.

The total amount of sugars in the new recipes is made up entirely of the natural sugars found in red beets, red cabbage and apples. The amount of natural sugars in the new recipes is also much lower than in the classic products. As a result the new products fit in with The Netherlands Nutrition Centre’s ‘Wheel of Five’.

The new HAK products reflect HAK’s drive for innovation: to improve and develop the healthiest possible ingredient and recipe combinations. The new Red Cabbage with Apple 0% and Red Beets 0% come in 370 ml jars and will be introduced in supermarkets over the coming months.

Classics also contain less sugar and salt

The traditional versions of Red Cabbage and Red Beets will continue to be part of the range. As established in the most recent covenant among canned vegetables manufacturers in 2017, HAK has also substantially reduced the added sugars and salt in these classics by 20% and 40% respectively.
