Medux is taking concrete steps toward more sustainable healthcare logistics. The healthcare provider is rapidly expanding its electric fleet in both the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. In the Netherlands, the first electric vans were taken into service this month, while in the UK, the Hull & East Riding division recently added eight electric vans to its fleet. Both initiatives are part of Medux's broader sustainability ambition to significantly reduce the environmental impact of healthcare logistics.
Medux's first electric box trucks are now operating in major cities like Amsterdam and The Hague. They are used to transport healthcare equipment, resulting in lower emissions and increased driver comfort. Because the vehicles can carry up to 4,250 kg with a category B driving license, they can be used for a wide range of purposes. Medux provides the necessary training and exams in-house. “We are one of the first companies to take this approach,” said René Hoogakker, responsible for the internal training programme.
United Kingdom: 500 addresses served weekly by electric vans
Sustainability efforts are also underway on the other side of the North Sea. In Hull, more than half of the local minivans are now fully electric: 8 of the 15 vehicles have been replaced by EVs. Together, they serve approximately 500 addresses weekly. According to Medux UK, this is “an exciting step in reducing our carbon footprint, without compromising the quality of our service.”
Medux aims for all its vehicles to be emission-free by 2029. “It may seem a long way off, but 2029 is only three years away. We need to look ahead and not just think about today,” said the healthcare provider. According to the organization, the recent additions to the fleet represent an important step in that direction, not only in terms of sustainability but also in terms of job satisfaction and driver comfort.
