NPM portfolio company Bergman Clinics is launching a pilot in the Haarlem region for dermatology photo consultations via the Dutch digital referral platform ZorgDomein. In this approach, a dermatologist assesses skin conditions based on photos and a questionnaire. In some cases, patients receive faster clarity and may not need to visit the clinic immediately.
General practitioners can request the photo consultation for conditions that can be clearly captured in images. After referral, patients receive a message within 24 hours via a patient portal, including a questionnaire and instructions on how to take and submit photos. The dermatologist then evaluates the condition based on this information.
A suitable next step is then determined. This may include a treatment proposal with medication or ointment, scheduling a procedure at the clinic, or an in-person consultation if additional examination is required or the images are insufficient.
With this pilot, Bergman Clinics is exploring how dermatological care can be delivered more quickly and with easier access. The service is part of a standard referral through ZorgDomein, and the patient’s deductible applies.
