Running, cycling and walking to raise money for the largest solvable problem in the world: chronic hunger. On Sunday 2 November, 109 company teams and more than 100 children came together during the 8th Run for The Hunger Project in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. The team of Loyens & Loeff was the first to cross the finish line and thus won the first prize, followed by NPM Capital and ABN AMRO. A total amount of 265,000 Euro was raised this day for The Hunger Project, including an increase of 55% by Stichting Wilde Ganzen.

Initiator and organiser, José Cubo of NPM Capital, organised this event for the 8th time, and was able to expand the Run for The Hunger Project from a small-scale initiative into the ultimate running event for businesses in the Netherlands. José Cubo: ‘We know that the money is spent well; The Hunger Project truly has an impact.’ The word of thanks came from Pascal Djohossou, Director of The Hunger Project Benin: ‘Fantastic, with this contribution we can invest in self-sufficiency amongst women and young people, so they can soon stand securely on their own two feet.’

Cycling against hunger

A special participant in the Run for the Hunger Project this year was cyclist Jan van Andel, employed by HAK. He cycled more than 20,000 km on his own in one year and in so doing raised an overall amount of 22,000 Euro.

The Run for the Hunger Project is made possible by companies like NPM Capital, Kwekkeboom, De Boer, Hak, Bavaria, Douwe Egberts, VSI, Aubergine IT, Westland, My Laps, amongst others, and also as a result of the efforts of dozens of volunteers. House of Sports was responsible for the organisation of the business run. Stichting Wilde Ganzen increased the proceeds by adding 55%.
