Dieseko: Innovation in the dismantling of wind farm foundations | NPM Capital

Dieseko Group, an NPM Capital portfolio company since 2013, is the global market leader in the development and manufacture of hydraulic vibro equipment for the foundation industry, as well as providing related services. The company has built an impressive portfolio of specialised projects
 – both in the manufacture and construction of hydraulic vibro equipment and in the dismantling of foundations.

Dieseko Group added another milestone to its growing list of accomplishments this autumn: it managed to successfully remove several pipes from the Lely wind farm, operated by Dutch power company Nuon. The wind farm needed to be dismantled, having ceased to be profitable after 24 years in operation.

Seabed

The company faced a dual challenge in the removal process, involving both the size of the pipes and – especially – ensuring that the seabed would remain intact. Dieseko used the PVE 500M to remove the foundation, its most powerful single PVE vibratory hammer. This technology enabled the four pipes – with a length of 26 metres each and a diameter of between 3.20 and 3.70 metres – to be effortlessly extracted from the seabed and subsequently removed.

The vibratory hammer’s massive power made it possible to remove the pipes in an average of 45 minutes. The PVE 500M, which consists of two linked 250kgm carters in accordance with the patented GIANT system, has once again proved that it is both strong enough to easily remove pipes weighing between 70 and 80 tonnes and to conduct this process reliably and at record speed. The project was managed by the maritime services provider Hebo Maritiemservice, based in Zwartsluis, the Netherlands.
