Several generations of Dutch people were raised on them: HAK’s vegetables and beans, packed in the signature glass jars. The true classics from the HAK range are now available for the first time with no added sugar, salt or artificial sweeteners. The four updated new ‘0%’ products include Red Cabbage and Apples, Beetroot, Baked Beans and White Beans in Tomato Sauce.
As a producer of vegetables and legumes, NPM portfolio company HAK aims to lead the way when it comes to marketing products with no added sugar or salt. The launch of its ‘0%’ range of sugar-free and salt-free varieties of its popular vegetables and legumes is a new step in terms of accommodating the needs of today’s health-conscious consumers. HAK’s mission is to encourage people to consume more vegetables and legumes in a way that is tasty and easy and contributes to their health.
The launch of these four new classics comes on the heels of the launch of the ‘0%’ apple puree varieties, which have been available in the market for some time. All three of these products – 0% Apple Puree, 0% Apple Compote and 0% Apple Puree with Cinnamon – are supermarket best-sellers. What makes these products remarkable is that HAK has not only avoided adding sugar, but has actually managed to reduce the percentage of natural sugar from the apples by selecting mildly sweet varieties with a naturally low sugar content.

HAK Innovation and Marketing Director Nicole Freid: “The launch of these best-sellers in an updated design is another step forward in our goal of developing combinations of ingredients and recipes that are as healthy as possible, and to improve existing products and launch new ones in the process. We enhanced the flavour of these products by adding all-natural flavourings like vinegar and various herbs and spices. So in addition to enjoying our signature products, fans of our classics can now also choose one of the ‘0%’ varieties of their favourites. And believe me, they are every bit as tasty as the originals!”
HAK’s classic products remain available from retailers, but since the 2017/2018 harvesting season their sugar content and salt content have also been reduced – by up to 30% and up to 40%, respectively.
The ‘0%’ varieties of Red Cabbage with Apples, Beetroot, Baked Beans and White Beans in Tomato Sauce are available in HAK’s familiar 370-millilitre glass jars from supermarkets now.
