"NPM Capital in Business 2009" published today

Due to a decrease in the number of exits, NPM posted lower net profit in 2008 than in the previous year, namely € 82 million compared to € 222 million in 2007. This is stated in the 2009 Annual Report that NPM Capital published today. The total profit of all the companies in the portfolio rose by 6% in 2008. NPM Capital invested exclusively in existing portfolio companies in the year under review.

While NPM Capital was extremely reluctant to enter into new investments in 2008 owing to the exceptional market conditions, it did make investments in existing portfolio companies, including Hertel, Continental Bakeries, Royaan and ABIRD. NPM Capital furthermore invested in setting up its own branch office in Brussels and in establishing NPM Healthcare. Total investments amounted to € 66 million in 2008 (2007: € 227 million).

Small stakes sold
In line with NPM Capital’s policy, relative small stakes in thirteen Dutch portfolio companies have been sold in recent years. All of the sales of the stakes in non-listed companies were carried out in good co-operation with the shareholders and management. The total portfolio at the end of 2008 was comprised of 41 direct investments (2007: 55) with a book value of € 639 million (2007: € 729 million). Investments with a book value of € 92 million were held indirectly via funds (2007: € 95 million).
